Pantry Reno

I love sightseeing model homes and getting ideas. During last year’s AIA home tour I toured an absolutely stunning home that had nearly every thing I loved and wanted – from the layout and floor plan to the colors and decor.

One of my favorite areas was their wine cellar! Oh my! I Loved it. It had all glass walls with Mexican pebbles bordering the floors and the lighting was incredible. I wish I had a wine cellar!

When/if I build my next house it definitely will have to have a wine cellar. In the meantime, I came back to my little abode and I began to brainstorm on which area of my house that I can transform into a room that gives this type of appeal.

Hmmm., how about my pantry room?

My pantry was a narrow closet with cream walls and cream shelves. It was plain and bland. It had a solid door and the lighting inside the pantry was grim and dim. The pantry sits in between my dining room and kitchen so you have to pass the pantry before you get either area.

I decided to get creative. How can I upgrade this room and make a pantry room pop?! Here’s my work…

I wanted to create a creative accent wall using wall trim. So I tore out those shelves! Thanks to Pinterest I came across this cool design that I replicated.

To utilize the space and make the room more of a walk in I installed new shelves.

Another element I switched up was the lighting. Lighting is everything! I brightened the area up with some shelf lighting.

I created a wine wall with these vintage wine racks and I installed a gold wine bottle holder to add a touch of decoration.

For this type of pantry room I felt it had to be seen; so I switched out the solid entry door and put a glass door instead.

Now that my pantry room is complete I’ve had so many of my house guests who are intrigued by what’s behind the glass door! I have honestly received lots of feedback that they thought this room was a wine cellar at first glance!

“Ha” I think, “Mission accomplished!”
