I’ll do laundry!

I’ll do laundry!

Another DIY Project

I’ll be posting a lot of pictures here so my post will be short.

Before I personally and physically demo’d our laundry room it was a pretty decent area. However, being the person that I am…I saw that there were areas that needed some TLC.

  • The entry door forever swung into the washer machine  (urgh!)
  • The storage closet sliding doors was in the way of fully accessing my cleaning supplies
  • The wall paint color made the room look smaller than it appeared
  • There was a big empty space in the corner of the room that looked odd
  • I wanted the laundry room to also be the mud room

And I think my original list went on. Well just like I demo’d and renovated our master closet this laundry room was next on my task! In about 2 months the laundry room was complete. I got the furniture, shelving, and decor from many different places so message me if you’re interested in knowing.

Now that our laundry room is up to part… I am honestly motivated to say “I’ll do Laundry!”

Enjoy the pictures! 🤗

Speaking of wine

A continued post from my California trip I’d like to talk about Napa Valley wine country {my heart goes out to all of the families who suffered loss during the fires}.

Napa Valley is gorgeous! The wineries are so refined. To make sure we got the most out of our trip to Napa I booked a Wine tour on the Napa Valley Wine Train. They have a lot of different tours but I decided for my hubby and I to take the Ambassador Tour.

As soon as we boarded the train we were served delicious lunch! It was amazing. You could select from different menu options and get the chance to meet others from abroad. We then had dessert and more. We stopped at two wineries. One was Charles Krug Winery and the other Raymond Vineyards. If you ever decide to stop in Napa visit the Wine Train!

That type of day…

That type of day…

I know we have all had “that type of day” at least once in our lives. The type of day that leaves you feeling drained and worn down. Well that was me about a few days ago. Thankfully in addition to having my husband’s consoling presence around I also had a few cozy and relaxing ingredients as well.

First up:

I absolutely love my Eero Saarinen Womb Chair and Ottoman. I’ve had it for about 2 years now and it has done right by me. It definitely cradles you like a baby.

Second:

Since the weather is changing to a little cooler I take advantage of pulling out my faux fur throw from RH. {I am not just saying that because I am a valued customer either lol}

Let’s not forget the wine, candles, and a good book.

We’ve all had that day that makes you feel a little down…just remember to keep the things that brings you back up around.

This candle has such a relaxing scent. I bought mine at TJ MAXX. You may be able to find it online.

Organizing Nature

or·gan·ize

ˈôrɡəˌnīz/

verb

1 1.
arrange into a structured whole; order

Yup that’s me! I organize everything – my thoughts, my clothes, my cabinets, even batteries. I just can’t seem to help myself. I have to have order and straight lines. I see things in blocks and squares [if you dare to understand what that means]. Just know that it is my nature to place things in a very systematic type of way.

Enough said on that. Today’s post covers one of my entertainment cabinets. So the very thought of CDs just thrown about and games tossed around makes me cringe. I absolutely love this CD/DVD organizer from The Container Store . It was a bit pricey but worth every penny.

What I love most is that I can get rid of all the plastic casings. Some people prefer to keep the casings but I found the sleeves to be less space consuming.

I like to organize my DVDs according to genre.

Bookshelf styling

It was a decent looking shelf and then I thought with all the light colored decor I have in my house (the grays, whites and creams) I decided my bookshelf needed a little pop! A little bedazzle. If you ever need to give a blank space in your house a little pop just add a background color.

Because I did not want to be too drastic I went with a dark navy blue. I like to think of it more like a Royalty Blue (not a royal blue). It makes Metal pieces stand out (I love the gold and silver hues).

Here’s another tip:

“Just because it’s a bookshelf doesn’t mean you load it with a bunch of books.”

The exception to that is if your bookshelf is in an actual home library. If that is the case I’d say ok that’s understandable. But if your bookshelf is in a centralized area of your home like a living room, then loading it with books is not so appealing to the eyes. But hey, that’s just my opinion, I mean who am I? 😊

Don’t be afraid to jazz up your shelves but keep it simple.

Try laying your magazines or books face down instead of standing them up. Or you can combine both looks.

It was a beautiful sight

Have you ever been to Northern California? Specifically Jenner or Timber Cove?

We needed to get away and recharge, reset and refresh. So away with the planning. I planned a 8 day vacation to Arizona and California. We were scheduled to see the Grand Canyon, Napa Valley Winery and San Jose. One of the scheduled spots was Timber Cove Resort in Jenner, California. And this was the best part….

The rooms were nice and the bedroom’s view was breathtaking. To wake up every morning to the sounds of birds and crashing waves was the most relaxing feeling. The air was fresh and the outdoor smell was amazing. Our bedroom had sliding glass doors that opened to the unending expanse of ocean water.

There was no cellular reception here. You can definitely tell the intended purpose of this place was for you to take it all in. There was a restaurant onsite with spectacular food to go with the spectacular serenity. This place is indeed romantic and a place for romancing.

Would I do it again? Perhaps. The drive was a bit nerving but beautiful and breathtaking. The infamous highway 1.

I will say that I can not deny this place was unbelievable. If we ever need a place to fully recharge this place would definitely be a thought of where we shall probably go.

Berry pretty nails

Essie nail polish: Berry Naughty

So I tried another color today (but it was in the red family). I dare not deviate from my reds! The color was from Essie nail line and it’s called “Berry Naughty” . (My character has nothing to do with the name, lol). I really like Essie nail products! In fact I stick to 3 nail polish brands. My most favorite to favorite are:

  1. OPI
  2. China Glaze
  3. Essie

You are probably thinking “what about Shellac?” Let me talk briefly about Shellac. First off, I am not a fan of Shellac. As a former Licensed Nail Technician and nail shop owner (we’ll cover that in another post) I will say that Shellac “can” be a good product for some people. Shellac for me is too thick of a product.

Yes it may last longer and there is no drying time with Shellac. But I like thin natural looking nails. Yes, I have artificial nails on so the solar product is already a layered product. But when you add a thick product like Shellac it can make the nails look even thicker. I get my nails filed thin enough to still be strong but the Shellac will still make them appear thicker.

Bottom line if you like thinner nails the I would suggest Shellac if you’re applying them to natural nails and not the artificial ones.

On the other hand, my favorite top coat for regular polish is Seche Vite and it is the absolute best. I use to use their top coat on all of my clients and they loved it! In the recent years they’ve come up with the instant gel effect top coat and I love it even more! Here is why:

  • It dries extremely fast (give or take a couple of minutes)
  • It leaves your nails super shiny
  • It makes your nail polish last longer

Wavy hair girl

Wavy hair girl

When it’s time for my hair to get done I rock what I call my “layover” look – which is wavy hair. It is such a change and it gives me a different edgier look while I hold out a few days from getting it done. The best thing I like is that I don’t have to use heat on my hair to get this look. I use Flexi Rods! They are my favorite hair styling tool to get wavy hair! After I came across this pin on Pinterest it was all game on selecting how big I wanted my wave pattern. Here is how I achieve this look:

  • Apply ORS Smooth N Hold pudding (such great product that will hold your waves or curls, leaves your hair shiny, and keeps your hair flexible)
  • I part my hair to four sections
  • Twist each section and wrap around the flexi rod
  • Leave the rods in overnight
  • In the AM pull the curls apart to my desired fullness

If I get enough requests I will post a video of my styling technique!

Organizing an area

Organizing an area

Organizing is my thing. I organize everything: clothes, shoes, towels, kitchen drawers, pantry shelves, bathroom drawers you name it. Here are some of my organization tips.

Before I begin to organize an area I always start with removing items that are:

  1. Less frequently used/worn (if the item hasn’t been used/worn for at least six month to a year, or has dust on it, then it’s time to go
  2. I never trash items that someone else can use. I donate. My “trash” can be someone else’s treasure. (Besides it’s a nice tax write off)
  3. I organize items according to color, size, and sometimes alphabetically 😊

My advice is:

  1. Start with a smaller area first e.g. Under your bathroom sink
  2. Sort out the items you less frequently use.
  3. For the items you are keeping, group them together according to category e.g. Hair products, shaving products, lotions etc.
  4. Use containers, or lazy Susan’s, or Stackable drawers to hold your categorized items.
  5. Add Category labels to the front if you decided with drawers or containers.
