Kitchen inspiration – Phase 2

The other side of my kitchen needed some tender loving so onto the next side I went.

BEFORE

My kitchen looked a little dated especially in comparison with the rest of the house. Here are pictures of the opposite side of my kitchen.

IN PROGRESS

Time to degrease and gut it out!

I wanted to remove that old hood range that was attached to the useless cabinets so out that went!

Just like the other side we needed to heighten the cabinets to the ceiling.

FINISHING UP

I also wanted the plate rack so thanks to Pinterest I found a DIY project on how to make your own plate rack. It was very easy it only took me about 3 days to complete.

AFTER

The custom drawer inserts I made following this DIY article!

The pots and pan pull out drawers I bought from The Container Store.

the bamboo pull out drawer

the chrome pull out drawer

The entire kitchen project took about 3 months to complete. That is considering the fact that my husband and I work full time jobs. It was plenty of late nights and long weekends, but it was worth it! ☺️

Let’s talk wall decor

I love the look of plain neutral colored walls and wall decor (pictures, art, frame etc). Personally I am not a big fan of colorful walls (a colored accent wall yes!) but not wall to wall colorful.

You can always add color to your walls with decor pieces. In fact nearly all of my walls in my house is painted with the color Lacey Pearl by Benjamin Moore.

I had this blank wall in my living room that needed some accent pieces. I decided that a picture wall would be great! But then I came into this dilemma of how to place my pictures along this wall. I didn’t want an old fashioned appearance I wanted a gallery type appeal. To my Pinterest I went searching for ideas and came across this…

Oh did I like this creative idea of arranging my pictures in one of these arrangements. I wanted to keep it simple and not too crowded so I decided to do half of my blank wall with the pictures. In the end….I was pleased. I even added a gold picture frame light at the top. This section of my wall is definitely a focal area to my living room.

You should try it. Have a wall that need a little love? Try dressing it up with a picture gallery arrangement!

Let’s talk ZGallerie!

Let’s talk ZGallerie!

So my favorite shop for decor (and sometimes furniture) is ZGallerie!

I will say that your taste has to be of the glam nature to really have a liking for their items. Their prices are reasonable for what they sell although you can find some of the same items on Amazon or elsewhere for cheaper (which I have resorted to at times).

If you’ve never heard of them before they sell a wide range of glam pieces for the kitchen, living room, and bedroom. They sell the coolest lighting fixtures and area rugs and they are the best store to go for wall art. So if you are interested in creating a serious gallery wall in your home or shop please be sure to check them out!

Oh and I need to add that they are FORVER having sales!!

Bookshelf styling

It was a decent looking shelf and then I thought with all the light colored decor I have in my house (the grays, whites and creams) I decided my bookshelf needed a little pop! A little bedazzle. If you ever need to give a blank space in your house a little pop just add a background color.

Because I did not want to be too drastic I went with a dark navy blue. I like to think of it more like a Royalty Blue (not a royal blue). It makes Metal pieces stand out (I love the gold and silver hues).

Here’s another tip:

“Just because it’s a bookshelf doesn’t mean you load it with a bunch of books.”

The exception to that is if your bookshelf is in an actual home library. If that is the case I’d say ok that’s understandable. But if your bookshelf is in a centralized area of your home like a living room, then loading it with books is not so appealing to the eyes. But hey, that’s just my opinion, I mean who am I? 😊

Don’t be afraid to jazz up your shelves but keep it simple.

Try laying your magazines or books face down instead of standing them up. Or you can combine both looks.

I buy the majority of my home decor pieces from ZGallerie and HomeGoods
